I have a heavy action Carolina rod that is spooled with 17 pound main line and a 3/4 oz. egg sinker. I want to try dragging a small finesse worm with it and am wondering what weight leader line to use. Any suggestions? (I could use a lighter rod/line/sinker, but I like the heavy sinker to feel what is on the bottom.) Will appreciate having your thoughts.

I agree with Mr. Malone. If theres heavier brush I use #14 leader so if it gets hung I can pop the leader and save my expensive tungsten.

Might consider mono for a leader too...will help your bait get up off the bottom a little.

Cody is right on! Also depends on what and where you are fishing man! Always go bigger on your main line then taper down to what you can get away with!
Seaguar InvisX fir me as well!

I run seaguar invisx and in rock/ hard bottom area w/o brush, I tend to run 17 lb ML and 12-15 lb leader... If I'm on a known big bass reservoir and its nasty .. I'll use braid ML and 20lb leader.. Also in brushy areas, I try to use a smaller weight.. Just seems to create less issues for me coming through the stickz

Thanks guys. I don't have much structure to hang up in where I fish, and no grass. Since I am planning to use a finesse worm, I was wondering if anyone would drop down to say eight or ten pound leader which would give the bait a little more action. A light leader would be a little unbalanced on a heavy C-rig, but I was just checking to see if anyone would recommending going that route. Guess not. Many thanks for all the replies. Love TFF to see what others think.

Absolutely drop down to 10-12if no structure! I would throw and med/heavy rod with a fast tip and let the rod absorb a lot of the shock of the hoolset when going down to lighter line as a leader!
