Im thinking of fishing wed morning at lake arlington. Its calling for snow, yet slightly above freezing(34-35). Is it dangerous to launch in these conditions, or do the grated ramps make it easier.

Because no body else will be on Arlington the ramps will look just like the unused roads. If the warmer temps melt the ramp it probably won't be till later in the day. Good news is if you start sliding down the ramp you will probably stop when your boat starts floating! :-)

Swing by lowes and get you a few bags of sand and sand the ramp before you back down. But be carefull, once you break traction on a down hill slide you probably won't stop until the truck is floating. But I'd be more concerned about getting the boat back out once you get it in. Thats tough enough sometimes with just a wet ramp. Ice would be even tougher.

When in doubt, set the hook.

Think I would take some bags of kitty litter, just in case and find a ramp that sure isn't very steep.
Do you really think they will be biting after such an extreme drop in temperature?
God Bless

You will need help getting in and out if the ramp is like the roads. The ramps may even be worse because of being non used. We have used two trucks before and about 3 tow straps to let each other down the ramp nice and slow. You do the same thing loading up. Once the back wheels of the truck touches the underwater part of the ramp it will hold. Load the back of your truck with bags of sand with a shovel to make a path for both tires tracks. Be safe and use the other truck for support even if you thank is is going to slide. Hook the truck front to front so the safety truck can see what is taking place and creep you down the ramp to unload and pull you up the ramp when loading out.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

OK, sand but, we are NOT anywhere nearly as far south as Houston. Man, it's COLD up here in N.Central Texas....bone chilling 28 degree F COLD.
I am of the opinion, it may take several days of sunshine to warm even the shallows up even a small amount....???
IDK.... roflmao

If there is ice on the ramps, Ill probably just head back to be safe. Im off on wed mornings and would like to practice jerk bait fishing. No fish is worth sinking my truck. Im hoping the temps being above freezing will just make it cold and wet. I may bring some sand just to help out for loading, and arlington ramps are not very steep.

Get a couple 50 pound sacks of rock salt and a couple of sand and spread on the ramp. In about 30 min or so you'll be good to go

We used to do it at Monti when it was really nasty
