I thought, since the weather looked less than good today, I'd work on a project I've been thinking about for a while, instead of fishing. I always wanted to try to make some punch bait, that would work.
So this is what I did.
I took about a pint of bacon grease that I've been saving. Then I bought 4 boxes($.50) of store brand mac-n-cheese. 1 box of store brand cheezits crackers($1.50) Garlic powder ($1) I had 17 cat tails that I picked from a ditch on the side of the road.
I heated the bacon grease in a big stock pot on my kerosene heater and added the mac-n-cheese and garlic powder. I have a barrel of chum (sour grain), so I added about a pint of the juice from it. Added all the cat tails and everything else and stirred it all up.
It made almost 2 gallons of bait.
Well, I couldn't resist heading down to the water to give it a test!
Put a couple lines out. Ran back to the house and gave them 30 minutes. Came back and it worked!
It was raining pretty hard and getting cold, so I called it a day.
Since I had the chum already, it only cost me about $5 to make almost 2 gallons.
Don't know if it will need refrigeration or not, but I guess I'll find out!
Stay tuned for more testing!
