As you all know. My brother called me yesterday, and asked me to fish a tournament on La Cygne Lake in Kansas. Then He informed me that it was a power plant lake and i think he said the entire lake was warm. But I could be wrong. But my question is where should I start when locating big blues? And shad? How do warm water lakes/power plant lakes differ from other lakes? My brother told me most of the normal lakes are in the mid 30s. The tournament is one week from today, next saturday...I'm trying to head out Thursday to prefix and catch bait..but right now it looks like I won't be able to make it out there until Friday morning..my brother wants to start by trying very shallow. But I was thinking of starting deep. Also should we start by drifting or anchoring? Any input appreciated!! This is my first tournament I'll have fished in over 3 years...and we could sure use the 1st place and big fish pot. There have been blues over 70lbs recorded. Thanks in advance for any advice...kansas bound tonight!!

I would be fishing the hot water discharge area. Should be plenty of bait there as well. Used to fish it all the time for whites and hybrids. There are some monster flatheads and channels in there as well. Good ramp in La Cygne park on the West Bank.

Agree with above, the warm discharge is likely where the bait will be so I would start there. Also drift some humps and ridges.
