Hi there everyone, I just joined up to the TFF forums! Great community with lots of fishing, boat, and tackle information. Definitely a favorite of mine now. Anyway, I'm from Southern California and will be traveling to Houston, TX next week (first week of March) to pickup a new boat for me. I'm getting a Mako 21ft Center Console from a Houston local. My plan is to make it a fishing mini-vacation for me on my trip back to So Cal. I'm looking to spend about 4-5 days fishing some of the great Texas water bodies.

I'm mainly looking for striper, but some large catfish might be nice as well. From areas I've looked at are Richland Chambers Lake, Lake Texoma, Lake Buchanan. I don't mind making the trip up north towards Texoma if it's worth it this time of the year. A few years ago while at a convention I fished Lake Conroe. I fished Conroe with a guide, had fun caught lots of striper but they were smallies. I'm hoping to find some BIG fish during this trip. My thoughts are to hire a guide who will join me in my boat. But if not, I'd go with the guide for one day and then fish the lake on my boat the next day and then move on to the next lake on my trip back to So Cal.

I could really use some suggestions on where to fish and referrals for fishing guides for my trip. Any additional info such as tackle and rigs to be prepared with would help as well. FYI, I typically fish for striper in So Cal lakes and Lake Havasu while casting and trolling sassy shad, rat-l traps, and bucktails.

Thanks and glad to now be part of the wonderful TFF fishing community!
---Michael

Tawok has big hybrids and stripers as well. Texoma will be worth the detour as well. But while you are down south don't forget amistad!
