I was going down the lake today about 50 or so and the engine made a sound like it threw a rod, it turned over once and was knocking then locked up, it's a 1996 Johnson 150 fast strike, did it throw a rod or did the the lower unit go bad or what?

Drop the lower unit and see if it starts.

Bad day for boats mine started falling on it's face over 35mph and stalling at low rpm scared to do a compression check. Buddy had a bad electrical short and burned up a bunch of stuff, when I was loading up a guy launching hit a bunch of rocks and on the way home I passed a guy in a new ranger with what looked to be a locked up hub!

The plug will be covered in aluminum. You'll know when you see it.

No problem hope you get it figured out. If you need a rebuild contact Texas outboard rebuild. They rebuilt my 2005 225 HPDI with a 4 year warranty.

Although the plugs looked clean, you probably still have a major problem in your power head. The clean plugs just mean you didn't score the top of a piston. When troubleshooting always start with the easiest fix, however, from the way you described what happened it sounds bad. Be interesting to hear what you find.
