Do they make a big difference in the bite? Seems once I find a nice pattern and start catching some descent fish along comes another front/weather changer and the bite turns either completely off or slows down a lot. This has happened all winter long. Seems I do OK when the weather stays the same for awhile even if it is cold or warm. When the weather stays the same for a while the bite is good for the Bass,Sunnies, and Crappie! When it changes it slows down to a crawl. Any opinions.

I'm not sure about you guys south of us, but here in North Texas, for me, when there is a warm spell the fish bite better.

I was told this a long time ago and find it to be true for the most part.! UNSTABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS result in an unstable bite & STABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS result in a stable bite.So I have to agree with you Laker One.That`s why in the spring when the weather is always changing with one front after another coming thru during the Crappie spawn ,one week they will be lights out and another week you wont get a bite.

Got to agree with the that! Also "CK" the same goes down here. Seems that both the Crappie and Sunfish bite really picks up during a warm spell! I have however caught some nice Crappie during some cold weather as well.

I like to pond fish. No question it has an effect on the ponds. I am always watching the barometric pressure, wind direction and outside temperature. As soon as that wind shifts to the north or east the fishing shuts down. High winds are usually an indication of rapidly changing barometric pressure and the bite usually slows down. A few days of warm overnight temperatures will raise the water temperature in shallow ponds enough to get the fish biting. A few cold nights and days will shut it down. Bluegill seem to be less effected by these factors than sunfish or bass.

Especially this time of year if a cold front comes thru, find the closest drop off that drops into 8'+. They are unlikely to go all the way to the "wintering hole", but definitely check between the spawning shallows and the wintering hole. Odds are they are not far from the shallows. Getting them to bite after that front has passed is a whole 'nother issue! When's the last time you ate with a booming headache? If you have, did you eat a big steak or sips of soup?

Plus #1 on all the above! Side Note: I have noticed a huge difference once a major weather change has occurred or is occurring. The bite on the Sunfish completely shuts down. The Crappie and Bass bite slow down. Once the weather sets in either cold or warm the bite will pick up. (Usually takes two to three days.) During the cold spells the Sunfish are back in deeper water! When I target the sunnies during the winter months I always take advantage of the warm spells.

Weather changes make a big differences in the bite. It seems when colder weather sets in your bass and crappie get pretty active. A lot of fish are also staging during late winter for the early spring spawn. Also I have noticed that during this last warm up that the sunfish bite had picked up and a lot of post were being posted. I bet the sunfish bite for the most part has completely shut down since this new cold front has arrived.
I have read a few times on this forum: "Take advantage for the warm spells". Seems to me that is very good advice on the sunfish bite.

Today not one bite. I was right next door to you Curtis fishing Dunlap. Only two bass in four hours! The Bluegill have moved to deeper water.

High pressure consentrates the oxygen in the water and drops it lower into the water collum. I'm curious how bad it effects pools of water that have a fast, oxygenated water source flowing into it.

The overnight temperatures have been in the low 30s with a consistent north wind. Pond water temperatures dropped (I need a stream thermometer). The barometric pressure was about 29.88 and stable yesterday. Temperature was around 55 degrees with the north wind still blowing. I fished for about an hour and a half and only caught 2 small sunfish. The water temperature had a much greater effect on the fishing than the barometric pressure yesterday.
