I bought a terrova 55# 12 volt. My boat is a 15' bass boat. I am running a series 27 marine battery. Unfortunately, there is only room for 1 trolling motor and 1 main battery in the back. I figure the terrova will eat up the battery using spot lock so I want to add a 2nd battery run in parallel with the other trolling motor battery. The easiest way would be to locate the new series 27 battery in a different part of the boat about 6 feet away. The only other option is to cut away fiberglass on the wall behind the back seats and find a way to make a floor for it to sit on and wedge it up in there somehow.

My question is, will I find any significant loss by having the two batteries about 6-8' apart? It might be doable cutting an access hole to fit under the seats but will be a lot of work and hard to access in the future. I plan on getting a 3 bank charger and attaching. I assume it won't affect that any.

You will only have two 12V batteries, you don't need a 3 bank charger.

I already have a new trolling battery so I will stick with 12v for now but I will look into that and keep it in mind for future replacement.

Two 12 V batteries in parallel is a single 12V battery. Just more amps.

I thought, and don't know much about it, that even though they were connected, they would charge more efficiently with each being connected separately. Thinking about what you are saying makes sense. The charger will charge until the bank is full. If a two bank works then that's better as it will cost less.

Looking at the boat today, there isn't enough room under there to really put a battery without removing flotation which I don't want to do.

Thanks for catching that for me.

Six feet away isn't a problem, just be sure to use cable in the proper heavy Guage to carry the necessary amps. A three bank charger will recharge them faster, if that is a concern.

I picked up a 10 amp 2 bank charger today. 5 amps per bank should be good enough for me. I went with Minn Kota. it was a little heavier than some but I liked the 3 year warranty.

I have the same charger and have been very pleased with it. It is designed to remain plugged in all the time, one of the few that shuts of completly once the battery is charged.
