I recently bought a helix 5 si. I took it out today and could not get the side or down imaging to show up clear. It was real grainy looking. I adjusted every setting I know of and couldn't even make out were the boat ramp was. Also my down imaging would stop at 35' and would just turn black from 35' to bottom of screen. I'm hoping I am forgetting a setting or something. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Do a Restore Default setting to get rid of stuff you may have created. Start over.

Down Imaging is the same depth range as 2D sonar, use Auto depth.
Down Imaging is also what Side Imaging is since that view is a blend of the two Side Imaging pulses. SI has to work to have Down Imaging.

Are you familiar with installing and operating a Side Imaging unit?

Additionally the unit has to have adequate power to function properly.

No I have never installed a si unit. My 2d sonar would show45' and with a split screen of it and down imaging the 2d would read to bottom and down imaging would stop at 35' and from there down it would be a blank screen.

Wayne did you ever get my email. I'm not sure if it sent. I really didn't think there was much too the installation. Made sure clear view left and right and it was in center line of bottom of transom. I wasn't able to check up and down in the water because I couldn't make out the vertical post in the water. I will be taking it out in the morning to try it again. I will take some pics of the screen. I have spent the past 2 hours watching humminbird seminar on you tube so hopefully I can figure it out.
