https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqj7cpsSg28I copied this link off the crappie section. Some of you tournament fishermen have no doubt been caught in water like this. What's the best course of action to get safely back.
To whom much is given, much is required.

If you get caught like that, the first thing to do is either get into sheltered water and wait it out or darned well slow down.

That dude is nuts. You would have the lake to yourself on a day like that haha That guy was shooting a commercial to demonstrate that a Ranger boat is no different than any other boat of that day. It floats. You would be crazy to go into that, but if you were in it, you would want to go a lot slower than that guy and B-line straight for a shore that the wind wasn't hitting or a cove.

As an offshore fisherman I have been in conditions like that and worse when flash storms popped up out of nowhere on the Gulf. Rolled in 20+ miles years ago during Deep Sea Roundup with rain blowing sideways and barely 100-150 ft visibility and waves much worse than the video but granted it was in an offshore center console and not a low, flat deck bass boat (glad I had a Cape Horn that day!!). I can tell you it is white knuckles the whole way no matter your experience. Its all about angles and the proper speed when there is no protected water to run to (a true luxury on a lake in these conditions). Following seas are WAY better than dealing with header seas and that's obvious in this video. Getting a little angle on the waves is the best option...perpendicular is the worst (more likely to punch a wave or flip backwards). Too fast will sink you as well as too slow. Best option...about a 25-40 degree angle (depends on how close the swells are stacked together) and slightly faster than the swells in following seas, just fast enough to keep your bow up on header seas and possibly a little less angle. Tack like a sailboat as needed. With freak storms on lakes much rarer than on the Gulf, obviously it is just best to avoid days like this all together. No fish is worth your life.
