I have a Triton TR186 with an Evinrude 135 HP. My holeshot is decent and my top speed is 52 mph.
I have been looking at several different models of Hydrofoils and was interested in hearing some real world feedback.
Do they really help your holeshot? And if so how much?
Is your Top end better or worse and by how much?
Thanks for your assistance!

They help holeshot a bunch and staying on plane at lower speeds. You will probably lose 2-3 mph top speed. I have a Triton TR-17 with a 115. 4 blade prop and hydrofoil. It works great. Hops up on plane and runs 54-55 fully loaded.

I have one on my 17' nitro. The main benefit that I noticed is increased boat control when on plane at slower speeds, And it will allow your boat to accelerate and slow down easier without porpoising. I never noticed any difference in top speed or hole shot

Go to YouTube and type in "1975 Hydrofoil Evinrude". There are two videos I made of an old boat of mine. One getting on plane with and one without. You can hear how long it takes the motor to get up to top rpms without vs. with.

If properly installed and designed ... and the motor is high enough, it won't have any effect on the top speed. It mounts on the TOP of the cavitation plate. The prop should be breaking the surface when fully trimmed out, so the hydrofoil should be out of the water completely.

Low speeds it should make a good bit of difference though.

Put one on a 19 ft center console and noticed a huge difference in holeshot. Top end wise there was no noticable difference. It also cut down on porpoising drastically

No. Mine does the same thing. Just turn right till you're on plane.

This is the one I have on my boat. http://www.basspro.com/StingRay-XRIII-Hydrofoil-Stabilizers-for-Boat-Motors/product/91124/

My boat is an older Nitro Savage and before I broke my capitation plate, my holeshot was several seconds. Yeah my boat is very heavy but I have a 225 on it. The holeshot was still slow. Instead of fixing the capitation plate, I had the marina put on the hydrofoil. My holeshot is almost non-existent now. Once I tromp the hotfoot she lifts out and is ready to get on plane.
