Picked up 5 g loomis rods yesterday really only wanted three of them, but seller wanted to sell them together. I'm trying to find a place for them in my boat. So I'm looking for ideas on what these models would be well suited for. These are the ones I picked up. Thanks for any feedback in advance.

Pretty good variety there. Looks like you have most of the bases covered with your new to you rods. Hope to see some big ones caught on them this year.

G-Loomis is great about building technique-specific rods that work for the specified purpose. You can look up the codes off your rods at www.gloomis.com.

Not sure on that one. His "new"'rods, Edge, are around the 1/2grand price range. Nothing really reasonable about that. But, then again, reasonable is different for some people. I'll spend that in a heartbeat on something's. And balk at the price on others.

G-Loomis is releasing the new E6X models this year, at a MSRP of around $189. I think the company understood that there are a lot of guys out here that appreciate their quality but need something closer that works with their budget. Here it is!

Well imo g loomis along with several other rod company's are making the technique specific rods and they can be used for other applications. Thanks for the info guys

Brad, you've got that right. A lot of that technique specific stuff on rods is marketing, plain and simple. I don't need a rod manufacturer to tell me what works for throwing a squarebill, I know the action I need.. A 7' MH Fast Action rod is about as versatile as it gets. And everybody fishes different. I fish with rods people normally laugh at, way more heavy than the marketed "standard". It's got to do with they way you fish.

You've got a deal on those and they'll work for about everything.

I like technique specific. Different construction, different rods altogether for different applications. Used to think a graphite MH fast was good all around rod. Went to Crucial crank bait rods for traps and square bills and put lot more fish in boat. Also use Loomis JWR for jigs and soft plastics. Puts the metal to em much better, again more fish in the boat.

I used to own an FGR 863 for a little while. It really isn't a very good frog rod. They discontinued it and built a new frog series, which are a lot more suited for frogging.

It will serve as a decent jig rod though.

Brad, here's an example of marketing. 2 MH Fast Action rods, 1 is 6'8" and 1 is 7'3". Both recommend 1/4 to 3/4 oz baits and 10-17 lb line. Both say Flukes, Spinnerbaits and Senkos. I've not thrown a single bait that this rod is marketed for. These 2 rods have won money and work for me great. Dobyn's makes a hell of a rod, so does G Loomis. Don't worry about what the rod says to throw, use the rod that works best for what you're doing and how you fish. It's marketing brother. How do you think everyone caught fish before rod companies figured out they could sell more by putting the bait to throw on it? FYI that's a spoon and a squarebill on those rods, both work perfect for the way I fish.

Gary Loomis has hooked up with Temple Fork Outfitters designing rods for them. The rod is color coded on the handle end to let you know what the power is. Hvy action, med hvy., etc. I am really liking these rods and they are only $99 for 7' & under and $109 for over 7'. Lifetime warranty and best of all, made here in Dallas, not overseas somewhere. G Loomis rods, IMO, have lost quality. Check out the TFO rods at only $99 it's definitely worth trying. I know typically you get what you pay for but I can't see spending over $150 for a rod or $500-$700 for a reel. I love the few Revo's I have but will put my BPS Pro Qualifiers for $100 up against them all day long.
I don't work for or sponsored by TFO, just a weekend warrior. But do yourself a favor and try a TFO rod made right here in Texas.

Finally, someone that gets it!!!!!!!!! Marketing, I watched and been amazed how subtle marketing has evolved in the bass fishing world for a good number of years. Sometimes it makes me chuckle. I know guys that simply will not throw a crankbait on a rod that says spinnerbait or worm. Same with jigs or you name it. Many of the trends in today's bass fishing tackle are based purely on marketing prowness. Stop and think about it, does the 1/8 oz of cork saved on a split grip rod actually make a difference, especially when it's behind the balance point? Of course not, nut if you can get guys to believing it's the hottest new "thing" they will begin swapping out their perfectly functional full grip rods. Quite often this will only be done to have the same stuff as the cool kids (ie; the KVD/name your pro) Marketing pure simple marketing. Micro guides have followed pretty much the same path, although I do seem to be seeing a trend back toward more conventional guide sizes. There are many, many more examples of this effect, way too many to go into here.
