I am a Revo STX guy, but I bought a couple SXs a few months ago. Honestly, I can't tell any difference between the two models. They are both great reels.

I have a boat full of them. Basically all I buy now. I couldn't tell you how they handle fish cause I never catch any but they cast nice.

I have 7 of them. Best reel for the money on the market IMO

I have 3 and they cast a mile. Absolutely love them.

Bought my last two on ebay, brand new for $119. Only reel I will ever purchase from here on out.

Are they the best? I have no clue, but I won't fix what is not broken.

I think they are an extremely good reel for the money.

They're great reels with proven long-term durability. Based on my experience the STX was a "little" smoother and could cast a "little" better than the SX, but not enough to justify the added cost in my opinion.

If you're not set on getting an AbuGarcia, check out a Lew's Tournament MB. It is nearly identical to the SX in weight, shape and feel, but the MB also has centrifugal braking and is $20 cheaper. I could not tell a difference in their smoothness or casting in side-by-side comparison. Jury is still out on the MB's durability because it is a brand new reel for 2015, but other Lew's models have been holding up since the company reemerged so the MB should be a safe bet too. The SX has a stronger drag (20 lbs) than the MB (14 lbs) and a little more line capacity (145/12 SX to 120/12 MB) so the SX would be better for heavy-duty applications.

No intent to start a brand war, only mentioned the MB because it is very similar to the SX for a lower price. You'll be very satisfied with either, I can assure you because I have and use both.

Great reel. Good value and performance for the price. I have 9. All the same so parts are the same and interchange and maintenance is the same. If I want I could buy STX gears to convert for the body and center distance is the same the only difference is the speed ratio or number of teeth to drive a lower ratio.

Shimano Curados and Lew's are great reels too but started down this path years ago with ABU cause I started out with the the red push button and later Dad gave me a 5000D.

Go to Bass Pro and try them out to see which you like better... I would rather have one good reel than 4 crappy ones. Just saying.

Good luck.
