After using them for a year I am convinced it is the best rod out there for the money.

Academy Rough Neck T/C/ 7 foot heavy rods.

All I ever used was the white catfish Ugly Sticks, but they are 39.95, but these are really good, if you do not like them you can always retern them. Make sure you get the 7 foot heavy not medium heavy.

I bought 7 of these awhile back when they were on sale for $9.99, but I still prefer the medium action PAs for anchoring and MH for drifting. If you're on a tight budget, these are pretty good for the money.

I bought the 7 foot medium heavy and love them myself. I have ugly stiks, the catfish ugly stiks and some of these. Haven't bought the new ugly stiks because the new ones are identical to these rods. All thumbs up here.

I don't really understand how you can have a complaint with a PA yet like those rods.

I have some PA's and a catfish ugly stick and several other heavy action uglysticks. They are all great and work good. If you take it to the MAX the PA's are a little heavier duty than the rest in my opinion, but they all catch fish and do it well.

Academy Rough Neck T/C/ 7 foot heavy rods.

Are you manually setting the hook or using circle hooks with these rods?

That is what I thought when I saw the new Ugly Sticks and well the Pro Anglers, same basic design but at twice the cost.

You are correct the PA's are heavier and they also cost 2x's more than the Rough Necks, while money is not an issue I don't like to spend it if I do not have to, at the end of the day it is catfishing. If I want a heavy rod that compares to the PA's I will use my Berkley Big Game, a 20.00 E-Glass rod (not being sarchastic) I am known for my love of Big Game rods.

As for taking it to the max---- I don't know what that means, but I have been known to catch one or two blues over 20 pounds...

I never set the hook on kitties, I use circle and reel down.

Taking to max = cranked drag thumbed spool and braid significantly over what line strength the rod is rated for pulling on something that pulls back.

I have one or two of the T/C rods, not really that fond of them. If I have to replace a rod, which I rarely do I wont be buying another.

I don't thumb spools, defeats the purpose of the drag and turning your drag star to the max tends to ruin your drag washers but that is just my humble opinion, I fish with 25 pound mono and set drags at 18 pounds ( 22 pound Carbon Tex drag washers).

Now I have had 6 foot gar push these rods and the Big Game's to the limit and have caught a few 35 plus inch reds at the coast with both, so I am pretty pleased with these 20 dalla rods.

Take the rods back and they will give you a store credit if you do not like them, if they don't and they are in good shape and are the heavies I will buy them from you, or trade you for a mess of sinkers.

I can be pretty hard on my catfishin rods and the Ugly Stiks have been bomb proof over the years.
I checked out TC Roughneck rod at Academy this morning and as far as inexpensive (cheap) rods they are better than any I've seen, They do look similar to the Uglies with the semi clear tips and all but I like the action better on the med. hvy of the TC.
Anyway I walked away with one for with tax $21 dollars and some change. I needed one for my old Zebco 808 I dug out of the shed and cleaned up.
It's going to get some use and soon! thumb

Just one more cast!
