I will be doing my annual trip to Lake Fork in March and was wondering what I need to know if I plan on bringing my own boat?
Years before, I would just rent from JJ Marine but this year, I'm just going to haul my boat down. Is there anything specific that I need to know? Or do I just purchase my usual fishing license and should be good?

Texas requires......

Copy of boat registration be carried on board vessel. Serviceable life jackets for all persons on board. A serviceable throw cushion/ring rescue device. An operational elect. horn, air horn or whistle and fire extinguisher is required. Operational Nav./Anchor lights required between sunset and sunrise.

If operating the boat and born after Sept. 1993, completion of Texas boaters safety course.

Think that's about it.

You might want to bring some water along for the lake. Have a great time.

One of the biggest changes in the past year is the requirement for all boats entering and leaving Texas lakes to drain the water completely out of the boat. Make sure the drain plug is pulled and livewells are empty every time you leave the ramp and before you approach it.

Hope to see you out there.

Here in Tennessee....bass boat owners aren't required to have tags on their trailers....I've known guys that have been pulled over when they travel out of state....I always carry a copy of the Tennessee rule and regulations with me, as proof.....not all law enforcement officials know this....

I've fished a couple hundred days in Texas without plates and never had any issues. Kansas doesn't require plates but Oklahoma does (I thought).

I have full coverage insurance for boat, trailer and equipment. Also have plates on the trailer that's up to date. The only thing I'm really worried about is theft. I've been reading alot about the quick smash and grabs. I have a 2009 Ranger Z21 which has the good locks on there on the deck but I'm wondering if I should put a Lock'r bar on there also for this trip

Really depends on where you are staying, but it couldn't hurt.
