Some of you guys have already heard the story about Slabbie. Slabbie is a seagull on Lake Tawakoni that for almost two weeks would come to our boats while on anchor for a visit. He always visited alone...and within 5-10ft of the boat. He would follow us around the lake in that general area. Slabbie was always identified by the large 2oz. slab and treble hook stuck in his beak. We tried multiple times to rescue him by casting a line over him or enticing him closer to the boat by throwing pieces of cut bait which with effort he was able to eat. (He liked Frito's too). Every morning it was the same thing.. I would get on anchor and here comes Slabbie as I introduced him to all of our customers. I contacted TPWD and they agreed that if we didn't rescue him he would most likely die.

It even got so regiment that the sea gull would follow us into the marina, sometimes 4-5 miles and sit and watch us clean fish, etc.

Well, a plan was derived and Operation Rescue Slabbie went into fruition! laugh

I called him over and started to feed him...(or her I dunno, lol) and Matt (Cartwright) hid behind his console on his boat and while the gull was busy watching me throw him a slice of shad, Matt made a swooping cast and as luck would have it Slabbie raised his wings to take off and the fishing line wrapped several times around Slabbies wings, entagling him enough that we were able to get him/her into the boat...

Here is the rest of the story, wink

Good on you. Slabbie looked pretty calm through it all eventhough gulls have a reputation of being mean birds.
