My wife and I made a quick trip to Beavers Bend - a Valentines getaway. We stopped in at the Beavers Bend Fly Shop and hade the pleasure of meeting Eddie Brister. Eddie and I talked about the fishing and the river in general. The conversation turned to the foot bridges that used to span the river. Eddie told me that he talks to people at the fly shop all the time that do not know that there ever was these bridges. So, I went through my files and dug out some of my favorite photos of them. I thought I would share them with you in case there are some of you here that don't know about them.

The supports are still in the river - strewn all over the place. Some provide great pools for big fish in Spillway.

Those are lovely pictures, Cap. I think my favorite is the colored photo looking up the stream with the bridge in the background highlighted by he sun on the trees behind it. Unfortunately the bridges are before my time at LMF. I understand Zone II killed back then.

Great pics. Thanks for posting.
It is pretty sad that things seamed to look so differenet after they had to open the spillway gates and flood the stream but then at some point I really forgot how it looked.
Seeing the one pic of water going over the bridge makes me think you were there while this was going on. If so, did you happen to get a pic of what the spillway area looked like with the gates open?

What's crazy was always using those bridges then returning a year later and no bridge. I thought I had lost my mind.

Nice pics. I used to sit up there and stare into the water for hours.

I'm new to fishing this estuary but my guide pointed out the old supports to me. Great historical context. Superb photographic composition. An Ansel Adams in the making laugh

I do but I can't seem to find them. But, while I'm looking, here is what the cold hole looked like. And, to answer your next question Dawg, no we did not fish last weekend. I brought my gear but we didn't get there until 11:00 Saturday. By then there were people crawling everywhere. Then the front hit that night and I couldn't make myself get out of bed Sunday morning. My wife didn't really want to fish anyway so we just drove around shooting pictures of " stuff ". I'm still ready for a day trip whenever you can get away.

That's funny!
Man do I know what you mean there. No telling how much time I spent there trying " to figure it out ".

Normal is 110 CFS, I wonder what the discharge was during the gate opening flood?
