I moved to Coppell about a week ago from the snowy north of OH and PA. I'm used to really light line and 1/64th ounce jig heads. 14lb test line on my jig rods with 1/4oz jigs. I'm very used to seeing less than 10lbs win tournaments there. That being said, I'm told TX is much different. I've been told the colors differ, the fish hit harder and actually fight much harder. I'm looking forward to joining a club and possibly fishing some opens this year to see just how much different things are down here.

That said, any advice on baits, colors for the various time of year?

stick to your basics....black/blue...green/pumpkin....white/chart.......better learn T-Rig and C-Rig if you don't already. Get some squarebills in your box along with a chatterbait/spinner bait or two. Most of the lakes are pressured pretty consistently here so catching fish consistently can be a challenge. Good luck!

depending on the lakes you are able to fish....water is always stained to murky.....

do what you are confident in to catch fish

just adjust your colors and tackle to the water and cover you are fishing

Loooong time ago, I became friends with 2 Yankee guys in our bass club. They were light line/small bait guys. Despite ridicule from the rest of us knuckle dragging rednecks that were using pool cues and well rope while pitching huge jigs and trailers, these guys brought impressive sacks of fish in using that light stuff and did it fishing thick cover. Taught all of us a lesson.
So don't be in a big hurry and feel as if you HAVE to change what you do.

Soft plastics are among the least expensive lures you'll buy. When using soft plastics color and style make a lot of differences so always have an assortment of styles, lengths and colors, and a good supply of weights. An assortment of grubs, craws, lizards, Senkos, curl tail and straight tail worms will cover most situations. In general, use darker colors in muddy or stained and overcast windy days. Use lighter colors on clearer sunny calm days. Color can be important after you find bass. If they're following the lure, tapping it, or just lightly picking it up, try a different presentation or a different color of the same plastic bait. Try to keep the plastic colors basic as possible. In my opinion, you really only need a few colors. For clear to lightly stained water try watermelon or pumpkin seed, plum, or redbug. In stained/muddy water try junebug, black/blue tail or black with an accent color. You can pretty much fish any water with those colors in a variety of shapes and sizes. None the less, I still have about a dozen other colors to fall back on when those basics fail. Hope this helps....Good luck fishing
