Greetings crappie lovers. I took my wife fishing on Toledo Bend for our Valentine's. We could not ask for a better day on the water. I knew the water at the chicken coop was was warmer and the fishing would be slow. Not much wind at all and the water was 56 degrees. We fished deep as usual with minnows. We caught mostly small cats and drums. We moved around a lot even at the entrance of major creeks to the deep channel. We tried flooded timber area and shallow flats. No crappie all. But before we decide to give it up at 5pm, I decide to go back to the usual deep spot on at the Chicken Coop area. Within five minutes, one fat slap hit my son's fishing pole. He reeled it up and it was 15 inches and her belly was fat. We stayed for another half our with nothing to show. I knew fishing was not great because there were not many boats at the Coop area. The most I saw four boats doing their usual anchoring to the pier and roped their boats out to the channel drop offs. It wasn't about the catch after all. Family time on the water was all that is needed. I can't wait until next week when the temperature drops down again. It should make the fishing deep for crappie better until the the steady spring temperature arrive and the spawn will start. lut

Looks like ol' dad's happier than junior, but still a great day for all.

nothing more awesome than as dad and his son fishing .!!!

Is that koi fish tattoo" ?

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

Thanks. The warm weather trend made the bite difficult. I'm convinced the crappie is still deep. This fold front should help. I will go this Thursday again and see if they are still deep. If the water is 50 and below, then my chances are good. I will post if I catch some.
