So i've heard a bunch of different things about jerkbait rods and I've used many different types myself. I started out with a 7' M and it worked fine for me and now I'm using a 6'6 MH. I feel like I have better control of the bait with the shorter/stiffer rod. What is everyone's preference for jerkbaits?

I use a meidum action because of the hookset on the bait. Too stiff and I miss alot of fish. If you dont know he is there and jerk with the MH, likely to jerk it out of his mouth without a hook set. I have this issue with flukes also. I do a long sweep hookset with a medium and feel like I land more fish this way.

I hear what you are saying--you can definitely feel the jerks and the bait better with MH--the jerks are crisper/snappier. As long as you are using mono (even just mono leader) with the jerkbait, I think MH is fine. That being said, I've been using medium more and more--gives you more margin for error especially when the bass are swiping at the bait.

Now that I think of it I never really missed any with the medium. Even though I couldn't feel the bait as well, it still must have been doing the right thing cuz I had some good days. I may switch back to my old 7' M jerkbait rod then. I'd rather catch more than just feel like I have better control of the bait better lol

I like my 6'6 m it is a wright and McGill Rick clun and it has a very soft tip. It took some getting use to but I rarely miss a fish now and if they get hooked they are coming in the boat. It just has so much give they don't pull the hooks out. I have tried several other rods and this is my favorite so far.

6'6 M would be ideal. I'll probably end up buying one but for now I'll have to choose between longer/better action or shorter/stiffer action. I'll probably stick with my 7 footer medium at least for this spring

I have always used a 6'6" med but got a 7' med crankin and I like it better. It's a composite rid with some glass and the hooks burry better

Dobyns 685 CB works great. You can use it for a square bill rod too. Best jerkbait rod Ive ever thrown!

I use a 6'9 TFO tactical.... Fast tip....super light....great backbone. I've got a Lew's tournament lite on it.... May be the best outfit I own.
