What is the best way to remove paint from an Aluminum boat without damaging the boat. I bought a 14' Aluminum boat that had been painted and the paint is flaking off.

If you are going to repaint it I would use an air sander or electric sander.

Glass beads through a blaster. That's the best way, but might not be the most cost efficient way.

I had not planned on repainting it. Is there an advantage to having it painted?

I have heard that using a aircraft paint remover works but I've also heard negative things about using that too.

The old paint just flakes off so anytime you touch it, you look down and you have paint flakes all over your hand. I haven't used the boat yet but I can only imagine what my clothes would look like if I were to sit in the boat. I am wanting to clean it up and get it ready to put on the water. I got this little boat as a pond or small lake boat.

if its real bad you might try a pressure washer

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I do a pretty good job of removing paint on bridge pilings with mine. Oh wait, you did say without damage, didn't you...

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

Take it to the carwash.. Then hit it with a stiff wire brush on a electric drill.. A electric sander will work . but keep it moving and only remove paint... You need to paint or use a product like SHARKHIDE.. use a self eatching primer on bare metal.. I like the tractor EMAMMEL and primer from tractor supply

There's an attachment that goes on a pressure washer nozzle that allows you to stick a hose in a bag or bucket of sand. basically turns your pressure washer into a wet sand blaster. Keeps the dust down and washes the sand away. Have to put some metal conditioner (osfo works well) on shortly after.

If the paint is that easy to knock off then the car wash ought to get most of it followed by 100 grit on an electric sander.
You might consider repainting to hold down on the glare and provide corrosion resistance.
