I'm thinkingg about buying a Shimano Curado. Any suggestions on models or better reels? If possible, I'd like to stay in the $100-$200 range.
If fishing was easy, they'd call it catching

I've got 3 of the Curado "E" series and I like them. Went to Academy to check out the new Curado... I opened the left side of the reel to check the brake settings. I couldn't get it back on, so I had to have a salesman put it back together.
Lew's makes some very good reels in your price range as well a Diawa. I recently got a Diawa Tatula 200 HD and I love it.

E or I skip the G unless it's a chronarch as the g chronarch is simply a prettied up curado e.

I have three of the 200i. Like them very much. Went with Shimano due to quality and the ability to get parts. For under $200 it is excellent choice. You do have to run a q-tip with oil around the brake system every couple of trips. Not a big deal to me but has turned a few people off of them.

I used to be a big proponent for Shimano, didn't use anything else but a few years ago I felt like the quality of product fell off. Hard to put my finger on it exactly but it just doesn't FEEL like a quality product. I know I'm gonna catch hell for this, but I really like my new Lews reels. Try one out when you get a chance, they feel great.

Actually I originally bought a Lews tournament MG for $100,(been wanting to try one for a while), when I started spooling it up, the handle shaft had a lot of play in it...took it back to sportsmans and did some comparing and ended up with the 50e, granted it was $50 more..somewhat of an apples to oranges compare, but seemed like a better deal. The higher end Lews did feel good but not enough to shell out more cash over the 50E...

I have curados from the bantam 200's to the e7's and I love everything about them, even though some of them are 15 years old. I just got a new 200i whatever it is now. Not super impressed. It's not super smooth like the old ones, and doesn't have that overwhelming feeling of quality like the old ones. It's made in malaysia, not japan like the old ones. I'm going with the new 13 fishing concept A for the same price from now on. It's way smoother than the new curado and about $20 cheaper.

Everyone badmouths the G model and I can understand some of the reasons. However, despite it's shortcomings it's still a great reel if you can find it at the right price. I found them for $69 on clearance.

As a seller of said brand the majority of my customers have skipped the purchase of curados and chronarchs. Most go straight for the Core or buy Daiwa. I've had the opportunity to check out various reels from different manufacturers and the good thing is there are plenty of options out there.

I have 6 of the I series curados. Never had any issues with them. Had 3 of them since they first came out a year ago. Only thing I've done is flush all the grease out of the bearings and one small drop of oil. Just because a reel isn't made in Japan doesn't make it junk. That's my .02
