Hey guys, I now a lot of you have sound systems in your boats qot a question for you about marine stereos. I'm reworking my dash in my bass boat with diamond plate aluminum and adding a marine stereo. My question is I really don't have the space to have a splash guard on it should it really matter I mean that's why they sell "marine" stereos right? I emailed the manufacturer tech support but no reply. If it needs one I'll find a way to make it happen but I would like to hear what you guy with experience think...

Well I just bought this one and already cut the aluminum and I was all set to button it up and then my brother casts doubt over the effectiveness of the radios claim to be for marine use. Now in my mind "marine" means that a splash guard shouldn't be necessary. Otherwise I could have just purchased a normal car stereo with the splash guard right? But I wondered if anyone had any actual experience I could hear from before I just went ahead and wired it all up and threw caution to the wind...

I don't think you need a splash guard

I have a Jensen I think that was used 1 day I sure would trade for a nice reel and or rod, bait casting reel, med hvy or hvy action moderate rod, not fast tip.

I already have a new stereo just concerned about the longevity of it without a huge splash guard. I was really hoping to hear from the manufacturer tech support but with it being a $70 radio I think I'll just run it and see what happens from here and other forums the response has been about 50/50 so I guess I'll field test it myself...

is it removable face?

rain is all ya got to worry about, maybe rig a small overhanging diverter to keep it from going straight in and I bet you will be fine.
