I know a person who trolls an old road bed with big crank baits and ketches big crappie frequently
of course he aint trying to ketch them but they are there and do hit that BIG bait often

Thanks, good read. I have caught big crappie during the bass spawn using a spinnerbait also.

I would rather die finding out there was no God than die finding out there is.

EZ, there is a time when I prefer larger baits and they work well on big fish, I feel the on the larger bait it is easier for the crappie to see bait and it causes a reaction bite, when used at the right time of the year.

They are also few more secrets to catching big crappie consistently.

I will share one with you, that does not require a bigger bait but, just the opposite.

These were all caught in the last couple of weeks on a very small Frog.

I hope this helps.

I bought those frogs last year. I am going to try them soon. Are you vertical jigging, or casting and retrieving the frogs? I assume that you cast and retrieve, since you were using those type of jig head.

What will help is me getting out on the lake fishing again. Fishing my slip for a few hours on six different days over the last fourteen months just doesn't cut it.

So I'm reading articles and books, watching videos, fishing shows and frequenting different forums to fill the time and pick up what ever tips I can find along the way.

I have a few things I plan on trying once I'm on the lake again, including spider rigging, although spider rigging has never had much attraction for me. But it is a technique that works for many so I decided I should give it a try to see what I have been missing.

I also have lures, jigs and scents I have received over the last fourteen months to see if I like any of them.

I am about to buy a SI unit to put on the console, moving my current 597 to the bow.

So I will have a lot of new things and techniques to keep me occupied for a few months once I finally get to return to fishing from the boat instead of just an hour or two at the slip once every few months. smile

Thanks for your help.

One more question: do you hook the frog all the way to the jig head? or only half way to the barb?In the picture, the frog was not fully inserted to the head, that may be caused by the bite and fight of the fish. Please. help. Thanks.
