got into a bit of a spat over the 3 am gig out on the rocks , and was informed that wasn't gunna "float" anymore 1 st DARNIT >>>
tried my best to sweet talk my way thru it to no avail ! I have been now restricted to 6 days a week instead of 7
and to add more of a chain on this dog I was told 12 am to 4 am is NOW a NO NO as well
so after a bit of pretty please and so on and so forth I managed to get me a ketchn kitchen pass for 2 hours last night
2 hours beats nada in crappie poker so I played the hand i was given
walked up dropped jig hooked big crappie and promptly lost big crappie on the rocks.... 2 nd DARNIT
kept after them and that was it for about 10 minutes ONE BITE !
I was supposed to showing off a bit for a few folks that were watching and wanted to see first hand my presentation and such .....
and them crappie just wouldn't cooperate

so as we chatted and I shot the breeze with em ....float takes a dive ....

let the show begin I say .....

mind ya it wasn't a slug fest .but several fish came on as if they were scripted to show up
I was pleased to pass on a few of my baits to young fella who said he never ketched any crappie there
I showed him up close my set up and how to fool a crappie into taking it
twitch twitch twitch ...slight drag ....let it sit a second
KABOOM

no whales were harmed in the episode though
and I was quizzed as to why I just ketch them and toss them back ?
I explained it was my civic duty to educate the crappie in public areas
in the effort to conserve fish and leave a few for the next visitors I am bound to let several swim on

anyway there were fish being ketched in several locations
I watched two ladies ketch ONLY 2 fish last night as they shared one rod
but each one managed a WHALE and those were to the 2 largest I saw last night as well
second fish was approaching 2 lbs and got a few folks pretty stirred up
the good news though ....they was just there educating crappie as well
they wasn't keeping em either ....
had an ok time and managed about a dozen crappie, none of them were BIGGUNZ

the bite was pretty slow ...
now for the STAR of the show .....
I changed over to a Mr Fry from a Lil Fry when the big girls made an appearance
I was in hopes a larger presentation would bring a whale to me
as I fumbled in my pockets in the dark
I had my BARE jig head dangling at my feet in the water
all the sudden I went WHAT THE HECK ?
a fish just hit my BARE JIG ????
and lookeee here at this lil thing
a fat puppy warmouth
and for sure it was what it was
and is what it is
KABOOM

that was my 2 hours last night ....
730 to 930 and down the road I went

should have heard the WHALE story I heard ....
seems the guy beside me pulled one up at the barge
and in front of a herd of people it escaped
he says and folks there confirmed it was the stupid biggest crappie anyone ever seen
told me they didn't think crappie even got that big
I said oh for sure they git pretty big
just most folks never see or ketch them
JUST look at ALL the folks here that are thinking they are all that on JUST A 2 POUNDER
anyway the ole boy was pretty beside himself
kept describing it to me as ridiculous large and not even real looking
and it didn't even feel like a crappie ..he thought it was big kitty fish
said a softball would have fit in its mouth !
complained he is having nightmares about it
told him get used to it brother
the biggest crappie seem to have a gift for escape
lost a ton of biggunz over the years myself
most of them that escaped me I was pretty sure till I saw em they wasn't crappie either
the weight coupled with that there paper mouth is rather unforgiving to say the least

I always love a good ketchn story! You stay beating the lips of them ol crappie fish.

Get her a real, real nice Valentine's present and take her out to dinner tomorrow. That might save you from further restrictions when you violate the current ones.

For sure it is going to be hard for you to stop fishing in time to be home by midnight when the bite is on heavy.
