What do ya'll think is the best or most secure bass boat trailer ball lock for your rig?
Bought the U Reese kit, has a pin through lock but, the U lock with a ball that fits into the ball hitch sure seems like it wouldn't take much to 'knock or pry' it off.
Like this:

Any suggestions?
thanks in advance,
God Bless

Well. I had a boat once that I cared about and used a Stratec. But that was a LOOOONNNGGGG time ago. My current boat I don't need a lock, nor do I want a lock, when leaving it unattended. Lol. I have full coverage and hope it gets stolen sometimes. Lol.

My boat stays in my garage be said of the neighborhood I live in doesn't like to see boats.

My rods and reels cost more than the boat is worth. Honestly. I'm more worried about someone breaking into my garage and getting tackle.

Forgot: I was told that I REALLY need some kind of a lock on my spare tire, i.e., chain/cable/lock locking it to the trailer as well. Don't have one of these either....
What are ya'll using? Chain/cable/??
thanks in advance
God Bless

I don't think any of them or fool proof. Any decent hitch lock will work for the most part. But if a thief wants it bad enough he will find a way to get it. I hate thief's.

Same here but, the world has changed. Some real 'three legged ducks' running around this old world now.
God help me, if I caught someone stealing anything from me, I would be answering murder charges.

I have had cars broken into in years past. It is a sickening feeling. Now I am the most proactive guy when it comes to that situation. I have alarms, lock doors, remove things of value. Etc.

Its the same with the boat. Well. Sort of. I don't leave it outside, keep it garaged. Rods and reels are kept in the game room on rod holders. I remove tacks bags from the boat each trip.

Just by making things less of a target, I feel better.

When I get a new boat later this year, I will likely be anal about securing it. I am gonna watch this thread for ideas. popcorn2

Thanks. I surely understand. My rig is NOT new and surely not the best but, it is my first and probably last bass boat so, I'm kinda protective of it. roflmao Not to mention, putting way more money into it than I could ever recover if sold. But, trying to fix it up the way I would like it.
I'll watch for pictures of your new rig. Maybe premature but, congratulations.
I wish I had bought a bass boat 10 BEFORE I retired, then we would be surely talking about another bass boat for sure.
God Bless

Hmmmmmmmmm..........guess most are using the same thing that I am or nothing at all.
Would love it if I had a garage to park it in but, carport with cover will have to do.....LOL, unless we win the lottery.

I had that same lock on a trailer of mine. I lost the key, a couple whacks with a hammer, no key needed.

Do you have a folding tongue on your trailer?
If so, pull the pin, fold the tongue away and put a large diameter pad lock through the hole on the trailer side.
This, along with any good hitch lock should be enough to make it extremely difficult and too time consuming for a thief.

Retired and loving it!

Lipjerk: that is exactly what I thought.
MDF: no sir, do not have a folding tongue.
Man, there should be a good or secure way to keep and honest man honest by making it hard to steal your boat!
Well, at least I thought so....

I use a simple hardened lock thru the hitch latch. If they want the trailer, they will get it no matter what you use. How do you lock the ball bolt thru the hitch?
