Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this model motor?
Its not the Ficht model. Ive read horror stories about the Ficht, but not much about the Fast Strike.
Good? Bad? Indifferent?

I have never really heard anything negative about the motor. Not particularly a speed demon, but runs strong and is reliable. I would say as long as the motor checks out and it has been maintained, I would consider it.

I have a 97. The boat has been in mine or my dad's possession the majority of its life. There have been very few issues with the motor. 3 years ago I had to have the power pack replaced. I have had it for 5 years now and that is the only mechanical issue I have had with it. I can not remember it having any issues when my dad had it. The one thing I have done that maybe has extended its life is I almost never run it wot. I can't not afford to buy a new boat or motor right now so I baby it.

I know a guy that has a 150 1997 model, he said his mechanic told him that motor was the closest thing to bulletproof you could get.

maybe this will set you at ease. 96 model with some work done to it, puts out 215 at the prop.

I have a '92 175 Faststrike. Very good engine if it has been taken care of. I've had it 5 years and love mine. The boat has an hour meter on it, and I'm at 432 hrs. I replaced the original VRO pump last year just for piece of mind. These are carbed engines, so they really like the fuel especially over 4500 rpms. They don't idle as smoothly as fuel injected engines, and they tend to smoke more.
If I were you I'd take the engine to a local shop and have them do a compression check and leakdown check. If that checks out "OK" then I wouldn't be scared to buy it.
