Has anyone ever fished turtle creek near the Lemon and Blackburn avenue area? I was there 2 days ago and everything screamed fish but I didn't see anything or get any bites. Anyone have experience anywhere on the creek?

Lakeside park way upstream from Lemmon, below the dallas athle5ic club or dallas country club, not sure of exact name. Surprisingly big bass and in numbers. Lemmon ave has big carp, lots is small sunfish, and bull heads.

I've heard they troll for trouser trout down there.

Yes, I fished it a half dozen times. Specifically in that area, especially where those bridges meet. The water there is surprisingly deep. I got a 4" or so bass who jumped and spit my hook right there, and I've had quite a few hits. It's easy to walk up and down the bank and get a pretty good cast across the creek to hit up against brush. There's definitely a lot of fish in there! Very moody though! Weather dictated the bite, they preferred soft plastics, couldn't get any action on rattle traps or spinner stuff. Just Texas rig and chuck.

Park in the lot for the Theater, but up a bit higher than the closest to the creek. There are No Parking signs next to the creek now (unless there's a play/show). If I were you I'd leave nothing of value in the car. There are some sketchy people parked in that area sometimes, I don't care to know what they're up to and try to stay as far away as I can.

Foot traffic on one side can be bothersome, and on the otherside there are occasionally some homeless folks. There's actually a fishing pier, again sometimes with a homeless person sleeping under it or whatever. I prefer fishing the non-walking side by the theater, but tree overhangs can make casting difficult. The creek is really, really long, and if you start at the area you mention, then you can have a lot to explore over time. It's a very nice place to wet a line, I even went during lunch for work a couple times.

Lake Exall Park is way north and holds all kinds of stuff too. Between the Blackburn & Exall area is a lot of rich people houses. There are lots of pockets that can be fished though, if you take your time and drive/wander around and find some places to park. It's one of the more mellow fishing spots I've been to, and think you'd probably like it. I need to get my license renewed so I can check it out after all this crazy rain / flooding again.

NOTE! The City of Highland Park claims on their website that you have to have a city fishing license, but that is a made up and unenforceable rule! Make sure to have your State License with you. I always did, never got hassled, but being on the right side of the law in a place like that is always a good idea.

Ever caught any crappie in there?

Didn't catch much of anything to be honest. There's definitely bass, cats, and probably carp. I figure that creek has a bit of everything, it's old enough and it does get a lot of fresh water / debris removal downstream action when there's flooding and stuff.

It can produce some nice bass during the spring, I haven't caught anything over 18 inches long, but I've seen bigger ones cruising. For quantity wait till early summer. Water will be pretty clear so small diameter line and long casts are necessary. Also, stand back from the bank a little bit these fish spook very easily. Small lures work best.
