Well, I thought I'd put my big boat in the water yesterday.

So I loaded up the boat, got the dog and headed to Holiday marina. Pulled into the marina and it was packed, as expected, on a nice day.
Anyway, I paid my launch fee and got in line. Got the boat in the water and tried to start it. Battery cables had lost connection. No biggie. I paddled to the dock, on the side, and tied up to go park the truck.
Came back to the boat and started wiggling cables. Got it cranking, but slowly. I knew my battery was getting weak, so I charged it before I left and brought my jump start box. Well, even the jump box wouldn't do it. Probably could've done the old pull rope trick, but Tommie, Holiday's owner, told me to not hang around the private dock long, after loading, so I didn't want to pull the shroud and work on it there.
So, I loaded up the boat and headed home(on Lake Tawakoni also) Stopped off below the dam and tossed a jig in the river there. No luck, but man, what a nice day for a riverside stroll!
Got home at about 5pm and began to tell my wife about my bummer boat ride and that I didn't catch fish. She was making a meatloaf and said, "You have an hour and a half before dinner. Go down to the lake and catch something"
So in my traditional manner, I dilly-dallied away a half hour, only leaving me an hour. Got down to the water and got my lines out. Seemed that nothing was going on, so I waded out and threw a little slab around. Came back to a loose line, so I knew they were out there. Tightened up the line and, in a few, got one.

Took this selfie, and saw that something was messing with my other pole. Right then, I get a text from Mama, saying "dinner's ready". Well, you know I had to give that fish a minute or two to get on. Well, it did, and MAN could that thing pull. It actually kinda scared me. It felt like when you snag something, and the wind blows your boat to the line snapping point. I quickly loosened my drag, which was kinda stuck, from not using it enough. Tried to baby that sucker in. Got it about halfway, when it got violent, and he got off. Had it into about 3 fow, and right after it came off, I saw something that looked like dolphin size, hit the surface.
Yea, I know, "the one that got away", but anyone who knows Tawakoni, knows how big the fish here are.
I know that was a 40+ lb fish. Should've waded out and met it halfway. bang
All in all, it was a beautiful day to be outside!

the trips i remember usually have some frustrating moments in them followed by sunsets with lines in the water. gotta take the good with the bad and fish on.

Fish a lot, catch a little

Some days the fish win, you will remember the day more than if everything would have went smooth and just caught a bunch of eaters.

If the fish didn't win sometimes, fishing would not be a challenge. I know how to count my blessings! smile
