Hmm been doing a lot of research and it closely resembles the shorthead red horse but the mouth and barbels are not right at all. I have caught a few different types of river red horse but they all had the odd looking mouth on the bottom of the head. Have seines red horse minnows (red shinners) on the Colorado. The only pics I could find that resembled this fish after searching river red horse turned up an ohio fish that is endangered and very rare. I never really thought any thing about it exept it was the prettiest carp I had ever caught. I was going thru some pics today and really noticed how different this fish is from a common. Mmendez that is the same fish you showed the scales very blue in coloration. I would realy like to know the actual strain it is.

Those use to run through drainage ditch by my house when I was a kid. They are pretty cool in a group. We use to snag em with treble hooks. The are beast.

Your right about the mouth, it doesn't look like a regular redhorse

Yea from the gill plate up had the head of a common. I have looked a seven subspecies of red horse and all of them have either the lip like mouth on the bottom or sucker type mouth going strait down. None of the pics I have looked at have I seen distinct barbels of course could just be the way it was positioned. Mmendez you have any other pics of yours?

It's about 1/3 ghost carp - Google image search it.

Koi and common hook up you get ghosties or it is just an anomaly all carp carry the gene to be koi is just not the dominant gene - you can catch carp that have no scales known as leather carp. There are mirror carp that have erratic scal patterns with large scales and no scales or you can catch koi that are brightly colored or a ghostie that has very light color and a darker skull...all classified as common carp. That said I have only caught a handful of mirror carp and have never seen a leather carp

I caught a big mirror carp out of my neibors stock tank as a kid. I have seen pics but beaver caught a leather carp. Found some good reads on the subject glad I went back thru old pics.
