Does Academy or Wal-mart carry any good 8-10 ft combos for crappie?

I bought a Wally Marshall 10ft pole at Acacdemy, unfortunately, about 4 inches broke off on a fish first time I use it(and not a big fish either). So I cut it at the next eye and am living with it. I live to far to try to return it to Ft Worth Academy. So I am gonna order new rods from Pro Angler. And I picked up some nice spinning reels at Cabela's for 30 each. So will make my own combo that hopefully will last a little longer. I never used 8 and 10 foot poles before. Maybe all tips break easily. I will find out.

I've fished with my 9' Wally Marshall for 8 years and have never broken it. I've caught some hogs on it too. $50 at Academy. Make sure you get a Wally rod made by Lew's. Has way more backbone than the others ones produced a couple years ago.

Tbh, about the best you can get, next to custom is a pro angler or a Bonehead (though I have yet to fish with a Bonehead, but I hear they are good) A buddy swears by tica rods, and he does quite well. I got bit by the rod building bug, waiting on the 10' Boneheads, and have a hard time believing their is anything better for me than my 9'. I am wanting to build another 9' (built a 9.5' and 7') with a fly reel to get it balanced and lighter than my current. For rods, line, hair jigs, and plastics, isn't really much of a reason to go to a chain store. Post what you are wanting to get, and you can get better, cheaper from folks on the forum, just my

I do have a dog in this hunt but, since joining Wally's pro staff, I've used his new signature rods from Lews exclusively and found them to be as good, if not better than any other road I've ever used. In fact, his 5 1/2' dock shooter is by far and away the best dock shooter and I think I've tried everyone out there. He also has a new spinning reel that sells for $30 that beats the Presidents I used for years. Academy has by far the best selection of jigs, rods and reels I've found locally but, there are a lot of stores that carry his product as well as on-line. Oh, his siguature rods are $50 thru 9' and $60 for 10' and over. I don't see how you can beat his products for price or quality.

I got a b'n'm 12 ft and 10 ft jig pole from academy or gander I can't remember which and a Mr crappie reel. I've caught a 4 1/2 pound channel and a 3 1/4 pound bass on it. I'm not really in the duck commander thing but that pole they got at academy is pretty nice.

I'm going fiberglass this year. I bought a 2 piece 9' Eagle Claw from Cabela's online for 29 bucks or something like that. It has a cork handle. Oh yeah, I was with KobbyCrappie last year on Palestine and broke my brand new Duck Commander double touch rod trying to do my first hook set with it. I know all rods will break, but that was embarrassing.

you might also want to check out the new ugly sticks they have at wallmart. They are longer than the regular ultra light and very sensitive with a soft tip.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

In fact, his 5 1/2' dock shooter is by far and away the best dock shooter and I think I've tried everyone out there. I have one of the 5-1/2' as well. It is a really good rod for shooting. Also have a Wally 6' that my dad likes, he doesn't like the longer rods. Lew's Wally Marshall Signature Series Tuxedo Black Crappie Spinning Reel is my favorite spinning reel I use on my 9.5. In fact, it caught (along with his 4lb line) that 10.3 trash fish I posted on the selfie thread. The longer store bought rods are just too top heavy for me. By the end of the day, your wrists hurt. And with a balanced rod, you feel the lightest nibbles.
