I know it's still a little bit early in the season, but does anyone know when the sand bass really get moving in the DFW/Denton area? I promised myself I'd get out and catch some whiteys this year.

I checked hickory creek, they are not there yet. Early run usually starts mid, late Feb. I live in Irving, following the thread: Las Colinas canal. No one catchs sandies at California crossing yet.

They are not out in full force yet try to key in on access points close to the mouth of the lake. The biggest thing right now is dead sticking works best. A Clouser with an upward pointing eye to keep it horizontal just off the bottom with an indicator. Just let it sit there and then pull it and inch and stop. They were holding tight to timber so lost several flys but hey got to fish where the fish are. With getting rain they should be showing up more an more all over.

Hey moon you might take another scout trip and try the Technique I was talking about. When fishing conventional in the winter/early spring you take a two oz jig head and a zoom fluke. Oddly banana color works real well you locate a school with sonar and watch your lure untinl it is right in the middle of the fish and you just let it sit. The bites are very light until the havoc after you set the hook. It is dynamite this time of year. It is likely scouts have shown up in most of the creeks at least at the mouth of the lake. You just have to replicate this style of fishing using the indicator. In the same spot I went from nothing striping even at a slow pace. So I moved to this and started hitting fish in the same spot. They are still real lethargic right now even if they are present.
