I was out today from 12:25 til 3:20 PM looking for white bass on deep water (18 to 27 fow) structures. I'm taking this approach since I've never had success dead-sticking - albeit, I haven't given dead-sticking much of a chance. Just west of Crappie Island I ran into ETU and Lenahorse with 2 others fishing out of ETU's boat. They were dead-sticking, and I saw them pull in a keeper white bass as I approached. They related that they hadn't been doing all that well - even though we could both see fish down in the 40 ft water. Perhaps the heavy fog enveloping us had a lot to do with that. It was so thick that from the middle of the lake you oould barely make out the tree tops on both sides of the lake. When fishing 30 to 40 ft down, the lack of sun light could be a factor.
Well, I bid them good luck and went on to Mid-lake Hump where I had seen some on a scouting run the day before. I saw a few there in 18 fow but only managed to catch 7 in about an hour slowly dragging a #4 Mepps along the bottom. I left there and looked at 3-Jug Hump and Merimac Point but didn't see any fish. I finished up at the east end of Long Ridge, where I caught another 20 fish in 21 to 25 fow. I was catching em about every third cast when the wife called about 3:15 so I headed in. Total count was 27: 25 whites running 13 to 16 inches, a short hybrid and a nice yellow bass. On the way in I stopped by and checked to see how ETU et all were doing and took a pic as ETU landed a nice white bass (see below).
