Anyone have any tips on how to catch the trout TPWD stocks in lakes in texas? Do they go for salmon eggs, or something else since theyre farm raised? Ive heard marshmallows work well.

Those little jars of Berkeley Power Bait for trout work quite well. Just mold a small amount onto a tiny treble hook and you're in business.

small weighted bobber, no extra weight below bobber, small single hook, a small piece of an earthworm. all items are available at WM. Ultra lite spinning combo with 4 lb test.

I use 14lb floro for the fishing I do (Inshore). Will that work? I dont want to waste all of my expensive line. Maybe a 4lb leader? Also, how do you think I could use a weight, given I have reels that are made for heavier lures?

I used that kind fishing in the Mtns in New Mexico, and it worked better than traditional salmon eggs, apparantly its the same for farm raised. Do you know where I should cast (large pond/ medium lake) in terms of where they like to feed?

Take a bag of cheap cat food and throw a few hands fulls around, sling it good so it spreads and fans out. then fish.
Once they slow down, a handful of gravel will do the same thing.
Keep doing this at the same spot and hey will come running and it will become you secret honey hole.

I could see how that would work! Im guessing they were raised on pellets. Will they get full though if I use too much? (The chum I use is usually liquid near-shore)

They also eat at certain times due the feeding at the hatchery. The last time I fished for them the bite was on 9:00 to 10:00 and 3:00 to 4:00. Otherwise it was slow.

I have a blog which explains in great detail a method of catching trout which will allow you to use the heavier line effectively. You can read it here. It also addresses the use of a weight and a light leader.

Great article! How fast do they get fished out? They stocked it 1/5, but the lake isnt terribly crowded at any time. They stocked 1,100 once.

They usually last quit awhile as you can only keep 5 a day. You can use just about anything to catch them, minnows, marshmallows, corn, worms, power bait (My personal favorite) maggots, salmon eggs, flys, small spinners...ect. I just put on a ball of power bait and a small split shot on my crappie pole and catch them off the bottom but you can use a float also.
You never want a drink of water till the well runs dry

Take a half of a mini marsh mellow on a very small hook. Put hook on the end of your line with a small split shot about 10" up the line. The marsh mellow will float off the bottom and it's deadly for trout. Will out fish any thing else!

I followed the instructions on that article today. I used a carolina rig with a #10 baitholder hook with a 4lb test leader 2 foot long it worked good. I got four on the trout bait and 1 on a meps spinner. They actually put some decent ones in there this year and a 1/4 once egg sinker which was probably to heavy.
