Power Pro line will it wear into your eyes or reel guides like the old stuff would do? Does it float or sink? How long will it generally last on a reel that gets used, lets say, 2 weekends a month?

Braid floats, Fluorcarbon sinks. I have heard that it can wear on the guides but I havent had that happen to me. Braid will last a LONG time. What usually happens to me is the dye comes off the line so I change it out or I cast into the wind, get a huge backlash and end up ripping most of it out(hasnt happened with my new Curado or my Daiwa HST--nice reels!)

With stainless or carboloy guides any braided line will cut guides - with SIC guides it won't - and I disagree with Pie Puncher on digging - caught many fish over 100# with 40# power pro - I don't have digging problems - course if you lock down a drag ANY line will dig given the correct pressure - most braids will dig - especially the pure spectra with no coating - power pro uses a process that gives you more of a round cross section, there-by reducing digging PROVIDed you use a little common sense.

It lasts forever, I have some that is 2 years old, it just fades... Then you respool it to another reel to where the faded in on the bottom of the spool and it looks fine. No cutting into line guides of good rods, no digging and I have caught 35-40 reds and sharks at the coast with 15 lb Power Pro. My deal with it is that it tangles easily. Also it is a must for crappie fishing if you get hung on something you just pull and you do not lose your set up.

I have a spool of spiderwire 50# test that I haven't put in because frankly, I'm scared when I get a backlash I can't get it out. IME braided line is super difficult to untangle.

I don't really know what to type here.

iamquockie, see the post a few pages back in Whites - Hybrids - Stripers RE: Help with braided line

a tip I still use in case of a backlash (throwin braid into the wind still kills me)... I just about always have a gatorade/powerade jug in the boat... if I backlash that braided line.... I'll reel up "over" the backlash to get my lure out of the way of others on the boat and not lose it... cut the lure off. Continue fishing with another rod, until thers no action.... spool the line onto that jug down to the backlash. I have always been able to get the backlash out without much trouble, using a bent worm hook or similar.

Thughes, I am glad you know so much but you telling people that havent used power pro that it wont dig in at 40+ is false!!!! I dont care what you have caught, if you put it on wrong, it will dig in, no doubt, no questions. I too have caught fish over 100#s and even over 200 and I promise I wasnt using 100# TEST.. That doesnt matter though. The fact is, if put on wrong, it will dig in. If you are not having problems, you are putting it on right!!!! I dont have any problems with any of my lines digging in, whether it be 10lb braid or 100lb braid, thing is, I put it on my reels right and have used braid for about 12 years now. At first, I had problems because I was learning and new people will have problems too if they just spool it on their lines.
XYZ, you have pics of those fish? I am interested as I love to see pics of reds, especially nice ones. Where did you catch them? bay? I am a big saltwater fisherman but love catching anything big, especially on light line.
When helping new fisherman, you want everything to be just right, its not fun finding these things out on your own and wasting 20$ in line. EnsignJason knows about wasting money on line....lol I guess I do too but its just been so long and I dont care to do it again. Put the line on the reel right and you will not have any problems. Braid is superior to mono when it comes to casting and jigging. Good luck and get ya some braid.

Bonehead, it hasnt happened on your new reels because you spooled it on right. You live and learn and I am sorry you had to learn the hard way. I should have told you when I knew you were spooling up. You had the worst time learning, you had to hear it from Catfishd and I. That is rough. I am shocked that you havent tried to run us over yet or tried to drown us....lol

Thanks for the input guys. I have spooled up a few reels with Power Pro but not fished with it yet. The one back lash I did get when practice casting came out pretty easy. There is no doubt between the difference in casting and feel. I cant wait to use it on the lake. So Power Pro braid will float too? If it floats what problems will that cause?

Yeah nothing sucks worse than having a new reel taking it out for the first time with braid(put on wrong) casting a couple of times the blam--huge backlash--had to cut it out--couldn't use that reel anymore and had to listen to you 2 guys on me all day about what an idiot I was. Tough lesson but lesson learned.

Letsgo, no problems from the floating of the line. You will enjoy the braid and its good that the backlash came out easy. You will notice a huge difference in the feel over mono. Now you will be able to litterally feel every bump and hole on the bottom. Good luck

Lets see - take one wrap of duct or electricians tape on the reel spool, tie the braid on and spool under about 1/2# of tension, haven't had problems with Power Pro yet - I did have problems with the softer braids , wind knotting on spinning reels, I cast LONG distance 150 yards in some areas I fish - My point WAS that ANY line will dig especially if Bubba ain't got a clue on filling a reel. I use it on levelwinds AND non- levelwinds and fill the reel with ONLY Power Pro - most of the reels I use spool 400 yards + of 30 or 40#.

YA'll make it out to be rocket science violin

Thanks Pie I can already tell a huge difference just messin around the yard. I used braid back in the early to mid 90s. All I could remember about it was how far I could set a hook lol. And how tough it was to cast knots sucked so on and so forth. This PP Line seems way different I reeled up the line very tight and tested it on a medium drag and it didnt dig in at all. Casts like a dream and so far, its scary. My chronarch with a new all star rod is ready to go and so am I LETS GO FISHIN!!!!!

We're headed out this weekend fishing. Of course there is no way we could ever be at good as thughes since Im just a "Bubba" but somehow I still seem to catch and have fun. Man if only I was as smart as him I could have a really good time.

Ok how do you put it on Right? I always have some monofilament backing on the spool then tye on the braid. I have had some problems in the past with it digging in. Sometimes not. What is the Right way to put on braided line. P.S. Power pro is alot better In my opinion than spiderwire.
