Looking for big blues. Where should I start. The dam side, or Buck Creek side? Or does it matter?

It looked like it was going to be a great day. Launched at Buck Creek and met some locals that were taking their boat out at 1:00 pm and had been there since day break. They told us Nada. Not one fish.

That was about our luck. We anchored off of timbered points on the windy side. We tried humps and all around them (8 foot to 30 foot). We drifted the flats where the trees were sparse. Marked a lot of fish in 20 - 30 feet of water. That is where the depth finder was catching fish, but none on our lines. Lots of channel cat pecks, but no blues.

The good news. We did not dent the population. It was difficult navigating that area being there for the first time. That is a lot of trees! I may try a different launch point next time. It seemed like we were in the channel cats, but we were rigged up for blues.

There towards the end we would have been happy with one teenager. Used Chicken and Bluegill. After 3 hours of anchoring on timbered points and humps with zero bites (not even channels), We tried drifting the flats between tree farms in ten to 30 feet of water with the mindset that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then. Unfortunately, We came back nutless. But, got to catch up with my son who is back for Christmas. So enjoyed the company anyway.

Going to Squaw Creek on Sunday targeting the elusive green trash fish. Might try to get a cooler full of Tilapia if those guys are still active. They should be since the lake is heated. Never tried the Tilapia bite in the winter.

back in September on Squaw Creek we were catching the tilapia pretty good in coves in shallow water 2-8 foot.
was my first time fishin tilapia and it was a blast. we used ultra light rods with rooster tails fishing structure an filled the cooler. we also caught them on bobber and earth worm but the rooster tail ruled the day. those things peeled some drag and were devil fish in the boat, watch them fins.

Fish a lot, catch a little

The bite is still great out there. We found them near the power plant. Caught a few freshwater drum as well.
