Just imagine our fisheries if most everyone released everything over 8lbs. I try to talk my clients into it. Most are glad too.

Hmmmm I thought 7 lb striper could spawn too....I bet...just bet that the offspring of 7lb striper are dang near the same size as the offspring of 20lb striper. Its not like a 20lb striper gives birth to a bunch of 10lb fish......

My .02. I am reasonably trusting in our fishery experts to monitor and set limits to ensure and manage a viable and productive fishery. Obviously, some things are out of their control to some extent - disease, water levels, etc. However, the 2-over-20" limit on Texoma is obviously working based upon the quality of stripers we are currently seeing. Yes, the number of big fish taken from the lake seems overwhelming but IMO that reflects how strong the fishery is as it just keeps producing large quantity and quality. With that said, I know there have been videos of anglers who are camped on big fish and continue to pull them after getting their limit. Some of these videos show a significant number of floaters as a result. While this is not illegal and technically within the right of the angler(s), I would hope that anglers at least consider the results of their actions and use their best judgement. Likewise, I would hope guides would inform their customers of the impact of continued pulling of big fish when they are seeing floaters and hopefully steering them towards finding box fish - these same guides likely know the conditions where the fish are more susceptible to not being revived much better than their customers would. I am not naive to the fact that guides need to satisfy their customers however and some customers may want to keep catching big fish - it's a fine line and I can't criticize a guide or any weekend warrior for wanting to catch big fish. I just ask that people be informed, think about the results and do what they are comfortable with. Likewise, I would hope that anglers who are doing this are versed in how to best ensure the fish are revived as best as possible for a chance to recover. I mostly CPR my stripers but will keep the occasional fish including big fish - certainly if it is one that I don't think will survive. So bottom line for me - I think the 2-overs is a reasonable limit and it seems to be working......but we need to respect the fishery and if not keeping fish, do our best to help them survive.
