So this December, my fiancee and I will be headed to the coast. I have never fished the coast during the winter, so I'm not sure what I should switch up. we will be up there the 29th-31st. We tend to fish Packery or Bob Hall, do you guys have any recommendations on where to fish and how? We would like to fish pretty close to where we are staying, but Im willing to drive for a better shot at landing some fish. this is the place where we will be staying.

There are some excellent wade or bank fishing locations here in the Coastal Bend.
Some 'turn on' around noon or in the afternoon, so it's not a get up early thing. ;-)

I wish I would have seen this earlier, I was camping. It really depends on the weather this time of year James. Things will slow down in the surf with the trout moving with the bait, some will hang around the jetties and move shallower as it warms and deeper as cold fronts come in... sort of the same with the flats. During warming trends like today and just before fronts they'll come up on the flats... cold front comes in and they'll dump off into the channels. There's lots of options.

Fishing the ICW ( Intracoastal Waterway) which leads to the surf can have it's benefits.
In the winter, some locations along the ICW have structure (rocks) and as a consequence the water is a little warmer there and therefore the trout n' reds will hang out there as well.
Those locations are in the book and can be fished from the bank.
