I've always thought the best way to work on one technique is to go out on the water with only one type of bait. This will also force you to gain confidence in making subtle changes. This winter, I'm going to force myself to gain confidence in a spybait which is not working on a weakness, but a totally new technique.

For me I started this year wanting to learn jerkbaits, deep cranking, and deep water fishing in general. I caught my second biggest bass this year on a jerk bait, it was 7.1. Since then I have gained total confidence in jerkbaits. Never head out without one tied on now. Due to some un-believable schooling action we got into I never really got to try the deep cranking and off shore fishing. So my plan for 2015 is to get better with deep water fishing, cranking, and also adding deep jerk baits to the mix. Those bass like a jerkbait down deep as much as they do shallow.

fishing alot of drop shot, but also just working on technical fishing knowledge like seasonal patterns, studying topographical maps, and making artful finesse soft plastic rigs.

Getting more confidence is fishing the mid depths 6-15 FOW. Started last fall fishing table rock and kentucky and the fish not being all the way shallow and being forces to come off the banks using everything from topwater/crankbait/plastics. Learning that helped catch fish at Hartwell/Jocasse/Clarks Hill when the fishing real shallow was tough.
Its a major change after fishing tidal rivers for 4 years and not fishing deeper than 5 feet.

LOL, every time he mentions it on the show, my wife looks at me and says, "I wish he stop talking about shaky heads all the time". It is her go to bait and she catches a ton of fish on them.

Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!
