I've heard tales of how good the crappie fishing is at lake Fork in December and the winter months. What I have heard is that in the winter months the crappie stack up in the deeper water down by the dam. Is this true?
With winter hitting a month early this year I'm looking to find a winter fishing hole. I have a very small boat that is difficult to control in the wind. I'm thinking that the dam and the Chaney Branch area would be good places to get out of a south wind.
I will certainly appreciate any comments. Looks to me like it will be a long tough wait for spring like last year.

I haven't fished that lake since I lived here in the 80's. I used to go there one weekend a month to fish. I would limit out each month fishing the bridge pillars there. I would also fill two ice chests with nice sized bluegill each trip for a neighbor who loved bluegill. She would be over within minutes of my return each Sunday for her ice chests of bluegill. I often offered her some of my crappie but she always refused, saying bluegill tasted better. I would spent some time fishing the timber but the bridge pillars were the payload spots.

It's pretty complicated. When you head toward the dam look for all the boats, pick a spot where you will not get run over and start fishing.

Good luck fishing the dam with a small boat. If you got a north wind it gets pretty rough.

In the winter I tend to be very careful about wind in that boat. It won't sink but getting wet means the day is over and head back in.
