We fished Texoma last week and the box fish were in pretty good shape, but the overs were skinny like August fish are sometimes. There seems to be lots of shad, does anyone have an idea on what is going on?

The Texoma Striper went on a SlimFast Diet this summer! They wanted to look good in speedo's and bikini's! Don't worry they will beef up soon! Here is a pic from JD Lyle this week! Fish are beefN up!

Not worried, just wanted to know if anyone knew why. Usually, at least for the 30 or so years I have been going to Texoma, they are fattened up by know. Nice fish, JD caught. When you are on the water 5-7 days a week, you can catch a fish like that every now and then. I am lucky to get there every other month or so. We still catch our share of nice fish.

The zebra mussels are eating all the shad.

Bait kill last February. They have just now started to fatten back up. Shad are everywhere on the lake now so it will get back to normal soon so long as this winter isn't as bad as last years.

The threadfin shad population took a hit last winter so the availability of small bait has been less than normal, however the gizzard shad population is doing as well as ever and the fish that feed on them are as fat as ever. Most all fish 8 pounds or better are fat and sassy
