What is the best boat wash to use? I usually hit the car wash after every trip. Does this hurt the finish?

What type of wax do ya'll recommend?

Thanks!

Mike L -

I used Dri Wash 'n Guard when I had my boat for over 10 years before selling it this spring. It kept it's luster and shine from day one using this product only. It NEVER saw any wax whatsoever. This product is unbelievable.

I usually bought the 32-oz. refill bottle and they gave you an empty spray application bottle with it.

Besides not ever having to wax it again, it saves labor and I used it everytime after I pulled the boat out of the water to clean the carbon off the motor and the back as well as the "grime line" around the boat.

Check out Dri Wash 'n Guard and see for yourself. Or let me know where you live and I will come over and demo it for you, then give you a sample. This is the EASIEST, FASTEST, and ONLY way to clean your boat, motor home or car.

Mikel, I agree with Redfin. Thats some GOOD stuff. I use it on both cars, my motorhome and boat. Kinda pricy but it goes a long way. Met a guy at an rv park in La. who was a dealer. I was scrubbing the bugs off the front of my motorhome and he gave me a sample. I put it on the front and when I got home they just washed off with no scrubbing and re-polishing. That was about three years ago and I just bought my second bottle at an rv rally in Kansas. When you have to polish your house (motorhome), it's the only way to go.

The guys over on BFHP sure swear by Pro-Tec . I've been using the boat wash you get at Wally World in the 1/2 gallon jug & then the 3M spray cleaner/wax at the lake after I pull out.

~redfin~ your starting to sound like you work for that company like those other guys who try to sell something here, especially that CRAB-TRAP guy on the saltwater forum, lol. he says he selling has gone up, but none of us has yet to even bother looking at the order form if even the website. how much area does 32oz go on a boat? or how long does a bottle last and on what boat you apply to.

ZAINO is what me and my father use on our cars, he sure loves his 02 Z06. its kinda expensive but its not carnuba nor is it a polish type wax, try it out if you want, or if your near SA, i could show you.

Okay, I guess I am at a loss.
What is wrong with using wax on your boat (other than the work involved) and where do you get this Dri wash N guard? I live in NOrthern Tarrant county in the summerfields area.

Bassdreamer - Nothing wrong with using wax other than the build-up it creates time after time. Then compound that when the bright, hot Texas sun turns it yellow. Go to my post above and pick on the blue color print to get to the site. You can order right off the site. You cannot get this in any store unless the store owner is a dealer.

Kujo - no, I don't work for this company, I just believe in the product after using it for 12 years. I am an industrial engineer by profession and I love products that save you time and labor with a better result.

Info: if you order a 32 oz. bulk bottle of the product, you'll get an 8 oz. spray applicaion bottle free with it. A 32 oz. bulk bottle should be enough product to do your car AND boat 4 times a year x two years.

redfin,
Thanks for the information. I have used the Meguires (sp?) 3 stage products one time per year two years in a row. (clean, polish, wax) do you think I need to compound it before I use the 'Dri Wash n Guard'?

Thanks again,

Shawn

Shawn, I don't think you have to do anything but apply the Dry-Wash&Guard. If I remember right I think the specs. say it will cut through and remove old wax. I never have removed any old polish. Redfin will know more as he has been using it about nine years longer than me.

lawlllawlll is correct. No need to remove anything. Just apply the Dri Wash 'n Guard a couple of times and it will remove the wax coat. By the time you have a third coat on, it will be hardshell.

Pick a spot about 3' x 3' and apply the DWG a couple of times per the instructions (use only terry cloth towels!!!). Then take the back side of your index finger and float it over the DWG polished surface, then float it over the wax covered surface and tell me you don't notice a difference.

You need not apply it everytime. The clean-up between applications is to wipe it down with a wet terry cloth towel and buff the shine back with a dry terry cloth towel. When the finish quits beading water, it's time for another application. You do not need to wash the road grime off before applying DWG. Just spray it on (small sections at a time) clean that section with one terry cloth towel, then buff it with another terry cloth towel. It will not grind any dirt particles into the finish, guaranteed. That doesn't mean if you have big hunks/chunks of mud/dirt...hose those off. I'm talking just normal road grime.

You ain't gonna believe it!!!

Redfin - can you put this stuff on the decks or is it slippery? Would it get into the grooves of the non-slip on the decks? Sure would be nice to find something that would make those decks easier to clean without creating a finish that would send Ron flying overboard. Wait, let me think about that...

I use eagle spray wax in a bottle. It comes in a Red Bottle with black top and it cleans glass & all pretty well like a wax. I just spray it on the grime and it takes it off and leaves beads when it gets wet. I will try anything though.

I have an oxidized Dull spot -rough feeling that I need some help with though.
