I see these pinfish traps at Academy, I know perch trap are illegal in fresh water, but minnow traps are legal, even if you are catching perch. I talked to the guy at the store and he says they are legal to use in fresh water. I looked at the regs and Im still not sure. Anyone had any experience with these?

The larger green coated traps at Academy are illegal because the opening is larger than 1"x3". I made some myself w/ the legal opening and let them soak overnight before I go fishing.

Do you drop them deeper in the winter?

What kind of bait do you use?

Also, have you ever found a snake in one?

I was throwing for shad on a dock the other weekend, and a few of the shad slipped though the boards. I looked down and there was a giant snake sitting on the plastic floats under the boards chowing down on my shad. It freaked me out to know there was 6+ snake inches below my feet.

Those look great, would like to see better pictures of the traps.

My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

I keep them around boathouses year round.
I use cans of corn with holes poked in it and my buddy does well with a quartered up onion.
I have not caught a snake in one recently, but have in the past. That always results in an extra hole in my trap.

There used to be a bunch of people on craigslist trying to sell these. You can buy them for $40 each or spend $100 on materials and make about 10 of them.
