Got out today from 11AM to 3PM. Water temp was 80 degrees and air temp about 10 degrees cooler and heavy overcast with on and off light mist and 10 to 15 mph winds. Fished 4 spots in protected water: Saint Annes Point East, Swing-set Hump, Flagpole Point and Pole Dance Point. All were holding fish in 8 to 13 fow. Caught a total of 55: 52 whites, 2 cats and a yellow bass. Also had a legal hybrid a pull off and had a black bass throw the lure back at me.
Most of the fish were caught on a Pastor John replica of a Panther Martin inline spinner. It had a yellow/red body, and the blade was about the same as a #3 Mepps blade. I would verify catchable fish with a Mepps #2 then try a Panther Martin and Pastor John's replica. Every spot I could catch em with #2 Mepps I could also catch em with Pastor John's. Since Pastor John's was a lot heavier and easier to cast and get to the bottom, I stayed with it most of the time and essentially got to the point of having as much confidence with it as I did the Mepps. Because Pastor John's is significantly heavier I could cast it much farther, and I could work it faster because it got back to the bottom much faster after each 3 to 5 cranks of the reel.
I also tried a Pastor John replica of a Panther Martin with blade the size of a #2 Mepps, but got no bites on it. I did not try Pastor John's Panther Martin replicas with all red bodies - will do that another day.
In addition to catching most of the whites with the Pastor John replica, I also hung the legal hybrid, black bass, yellow bass and a 6 lb blue cat with it
Here is pic of the 6 lb cat showing the Pastor John lure (Note the fish tail sticking out of the big cat's mouth. It was a smaller cat that was stuck. Lucky for the big cat that he bit my line since I was able to get the stuck fish out of his mouth and throat and release it)
