Jug lines aint fishing thats just harvesting

In your opinion what depths would you be placing a jugline in this time of year, the juglines would be only for during the day, no over night. Thanks.

Harvesting you say? So if you catch your limit with a rod and reel what is that called? If it is legal it is fishing. Sounds more like a lack of tolerance to me. Jug fishing is fun and my kids love it, not to mention you fill your freezer pretty quick. Also wrestling a 30 pound plus blue on a hand-held line is a hoot. Of course anything over 10 pounds goes back in the water.

Anyway:
I do as all of the above said, in the winter I fish deeper 25 to 50 feet and in the summer shallower, 10-20 feet my bait will always be above the thermocline. To me the hardest part is to keep the line tight when you drop is so the bottom bait will not lie on the bottom so I use a heavy weight. Basically a discarded 12-16 ounce soup of vegetable can filled with concrete and I fashion a piece of wire hanger as to attach a cheap carabiner to the line. Most if not all of my jugs have 55 feet of line.


I usually run three hooks spaced out every five feet.


Here is a pic of my jugs, I used tarred line as it does not tangle and white duct tape. But now your jugs can be any color, I will wrap chartreuse duct on them next time.



D- you are welcome to use mine if you like or I can tell you how to build you a dozen a dozen is a good number since one or two are always out of commission. I once had a big 30 pound or so blue hit three different jugs at the same time and he made a mess of my lines.
