None of them see bigger picture !! If they only can fix that ramp & fix that property little bit with lights and everything charge people 8 bucks to launch everytime they will be making enough money through it.

Therein lies the problem, they do see the big picture and that picture is they don't want the public to have access.
Fewer boats on the water and they have the lake to THEMSELVES!

Just one more cast!

Lake Gonzales boat ramp is owned by the GBRA. so I don't think it will be closed. yes it has a gate and lock but I have only ever seen it locked but once in 30 yrs. As far as the vegetation in Gonzales requiring removal I don't understand. main lake has really no vegetation other than lilly pads and some coontail along the edges. now in the creek channel with the boat ramp can get choked of with coontail, lilly pads and lotus this has only happened during the these drought yrs. clear creek is unfishable because the coontail is thick but again this is a result of drought. in the winter of 09 and 10 they dropped the water level 2 ft and this did a tremendous job of killing off the water hyacinth which has not yet come back full bloom but some still remains. I believe the best way to control the vegetation in Gonzales is with this method and could be done this winter as we have a hard one forecast. Gonzalez is not really a recreational boaters lake as the logs and trees in the main river channel make it dangerous for that. as far as back in the oxbow and to clear creek you need to know where to run as there are many cypress logs submerge all over in 5-3 ft of water. Grass carp in this lake would be a big mistake and would have a negative affect on water quality. what the river lakes need is a good flushing and river flows from canyon of about 1100 ft per second.

I have investigated the gate at the Lake Gonzales launch ramp. It does not belong to GBRA. When the subdivision plat was drawn up, the ramp was supposed to be for the use of the residents. It has always been open to the public for a fee. The lot where the ramp is located was bought recently, and according to the deed for that lot he now owns the ramp. All the other owners argue it belongs to the subdivision. The new owner argues it is his. That is the reason for the new locks and chain on the gate AND THE LAUNCH FEE BOX.
The weed killing is a GBRA thing and they are doing it on all the river lakes.

Dropping the water level is the best solution. But with all the "new" residents from California, they want the weeds killed off because it spoils their view and they don't want the water levels dropped. They want to put grass carp in Lake Wood. But if they would do a little research, they will find grass carp don't eat lily pads or water hyacinth. Plus with no containment, the carp will just go downstream on the floods.

well BOO! I have fished the lake since the 80's and always put the fee in the box from GBRA. I just went to the GBRA site it now says no public access.
Another lost lake. Well if the guy who bought the lot is from California he doesn't realize the lot is pretty much useless. will have to be on some tall pilings and lot is very small. unless it includes the little house on the right that has been gutted for seems like 20+ yrs. that had kids toys strewn around last time I was there.

The buyer is a local I have known all my life. The lot has a new looking trailer house on it behind the fence next to the "parking lot". The lake is not lost yet. When I can catch up with him I will beg, plead whatever for him to leave it open. I think he will as long as there are no problems. If you are coming to fish Lake Gonzales, give me a day or so notice and I will drive out there and check the ramp.

Is the trailer in the parking area behind the neighbors travel trailer under the Awning/cover? Or in the lot next door where the house has been gutted from a flood 15 yrs ago?

When you turn in to the ramp, it is on the left behind a fence.

If you go to Google Earth, and zoom in on Lake Gonzales Public Ramp, the nice bright new white roof is the property owner that is claiming the ramp is his.

That white roof is a cover for a large 5th wheel travel trailer been there as long as I can remember. unless something has changed in the last six weeks as that was the last time I was on the lake. I have spoke with him and his wife on occasion. I called the number for lake Gonzales yesterday he said the gate was locked because the lake is low from water release and the ramp is unusable. as long as river flow is low GBRA will continue to release water for users down stream. I may need to go by one day and talk to the guy in the trailer.

The gate is NOT locked this morning, and the water has been lowered to expose more of the plants they are spraying. I don't know who you talked to, but I would question if they really know or not.
As far as I'm concerned at this point is the gate can be locked forever. I am simply passing on what the county commissioners have told me when I questioned using tax dollars for a private lake.

I called the phone number for lake Gonzales on the GBRA site. it was answered at by the attendant at lake wood down stream. granted he may not have the best info. I hope the carp don't eat all the coon tail in clear creek.

What the carp don't eat, the chemical will. They are spraying all the lakes to kill the grass.
