Can someone with experience tell me pros and cons to buying a tandem kayak for fishing. It would be for me only most of the time but a tandem would allow me to get my wife on the water with me and also to take my pup sometimes. I know a few of the cons are that a tandem is heavier and slower than say a 12' solo, but the extra room seems to be a solid plus. My fishing would consist of lakes, rivers and coastal marshes. Thanks

Look into some of the tandems that can be set up solo. Native Ultimate 14.5 and the Ultimate FX 15 would be a good place to start. Rick has the FX tandem in stock at Anglers Pro Tackle. Go check them out!

My brother in law has a tandem and he seems to do fine when taking my sister out with him. We also went down the creek yesterday and he took my 8 year old nephew along with us and we caught some good channel cats.

The Jackson Big Tuna is a nice tandem that can also be set up for solo.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

I have two Native Ultimate Tandem 14.5s, I use them solo mode 95% of the time. If you go with a tandem of any brand, make sure it will really fit 2 adults (weight limits, tackle storage and supplies, room to cast) if that's your fishing plan. The Native Ultimate 14.5 Tandem really fits an adult and a small person.

I have a Ultimate 16 tandem that I take my dad out in and it works great. I to would recommend a tandem that
can also be set up as a solo yak. The tandems are heavier, take more storage room, and don't turn as well as the shorter yaks. If you run up on a stump and it stops between you and the other person it can be tough to get off the stump. I've never had to get out but a couple of times I thought I might have to.
Another thing to think about is if both people will be fishing it could be very easy to hook your partner.

I also have a Native Ultimate 14.5 I usually roll solo in.
My girlfriend is all of 100 pounds but I have not trouble tracking it nicely on windy days.
Its super stable and has a ton of room for storage. deff worth looking into

Many have mentioned the Ultimate tandems. I have the Ultimate FX15 Tandem and it is an awesome boat for both solo and tandem. It is extremely stable and it tracks and glides like a dream. It is not as heavy as the Slayer 14 that I had and I load and unload it on the roof rack on my truck camper by myself.

There are several places in the DFW area where you can check one out. Mariner Sails has several in stock and they do demos on Thursday nights at White Rock Lake. Contact Mike or Dave and they'll set you up for a demo.
