Wow, TP&W has come a long way since I purchased my first fishing license so long Go I think it was issued on a papyrus scroll. Or was it a stone tablet?
Today, I went online and bought my license for $30 plus $5 handling fee. Worth every penny, too.
I used to go to Academy every August 15th and usually got my license from a bored, humorless teenaged cashier. It was a ritual that I endured year after year, failed joke after failed joke.
Now I just entered my driver's license and Visa number and done for another year.
You know, TP&W really should consider multi-year options, birthdate expiration days or pro-rated lifetime licenses.

Thanks for the reminder!! Need to get mine renewed as well. Last time I got mine at Walmart and after a quick 55 minute wait I was out the door. Ridiculous. Online is the way to go for sure.

Doesn't the $30 version expire Aug 31? Resident yearly freshwater only (type 231) is $30. You can start buying them Aug. 15 each year, and they expire Aug. 31 of the next year.

I made this mistake as well when buying my girlfriend hers...learned on here about waiting to buy until this time of the year. The one I bought last night online expires 8/31/15.

If you want the Senior license, you can only get the one that expires on Aug 31. Makes for a convenient money grab for the state. They really aren't that interested in selling discount licenses.
On another note, I was filling out the forms for my mail-in vehicle tag renewal and they have the nads to put a space on there to donate to the state parks. Are you kidding me? Not until we have a purple moon. We already pay a sporting goods tax that is supposed to support the state parks, the legislature just didn't bother to appropriate it to go to the park system.
Arkansas has it figured out. Their parks are pristine, entry and use of the facilities is free except the campsites, seniors, even out of state, get a discount on campsites, and the entire system is funded by 1/8 of 1% of their sales tax. There's no excuse for TPWD to be glad-handing.

I turn 65 in Jan. I see they don't have the option for me to buy a senior fishing license this year, so I guess I have to buy a regular license and use it for the 8 months I am 65 or over
My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

Was in and out of Academy in less than 5mins today. Saved 5 bucks over the internet costs! If I did this I would "save" five bucks and end up leaving with 30 bucks worth of lures...It's hard to go in there without picking up something I feel like I really "need".

I know what you're saying, RobMoe. Last time I was in the Tomball store I spent $149. I wonder if there's a twelve step program for us?

Did I read correctly that the Texoma license is only good until 12/31 in the year it is purchased??? Meaning, if I buy it now with my new fishing license, the Texoma license is only good for 4.5 months???
Seems like the state could make them run the same time frame as the fishing license itself.
