While fishing last weekend we caught a 7lb largemouth that was hooked pretty deep. I was able to turn the hook around and get it removed and the fish was healthy upon release. What are you thoughts on hook removal tools? And are there some that are better than others?

You did well. I deep hooked one at EM, got the hook out carefully as I could using fishing needle nose pliers....but, it ended up dying no matter my efforts.
All you can do is take your time, be careful as you can.
I do hear some on here will actually cut the hook.....confess I did not try that.

I've seen on the internet and read talk of some pretty fancy, HIGH dollar dedicated hook removers. I guess it's a matter of choice.....Sounds like you have been looking at them as well..

Use the line to turn the hook through the gills, remove with a pair of long nose pliers. No harm to the fish and fairly easy method.

I've always heard if you can't remove the hook without injuring the fish, just cut the line as close to the hook as possible and leave the hook. Not sure how that's harmless, but that method has been around for years and I've never heard contrary. 2cents

These bad boys are 11" long. You can reach remove and cut the hook if needed.

I hate leaving a hook in the fish but sometimes, especially with plastic worms, the fish swallow them. I've got some long pliers but if they swallow the hook I'll cut out what I can and release them.
