Purchased a Quantum Xtralite combo at Cabelas for $40 and it's not bad but I'm sure I can do better with buying an individual setup. Anyone have any recommendations mostly for bank fishing? Thanks.

You'll get opinions all over the place here. Shimano developed the line propulsion management system on there spinning reels around 2 years ago. This system significantly reduces line twist and helps with further casting distance. Even the low end Sienna model has it. If you do not fish much or only on weekends this would be the reel I'd buy. Take your pick of rods. Just stay away from real cheap ones. Get one rated at 4-8 lbs. or 2-8 lbs. at 6.5 or 7'.

That is a good sunfish rig and should easily do the job. I use the Shakespeare Ugly Stick Combos and the regular Shakespeare UL combos. The ugly stick combos sell for $40.00 and the regular combos sell for $20.00. Acadamey usually has em or you can buy em on line through Shakespeare. thumb

Won't go wrong with a Quantum. That rig will do just fine.

I am really fond of the BPS Micro Lite Graphite series. Its $50 bucks for a rod ($30-$40 on the sales), but its the best money you can spend when you get serious about sunfish IMHO.

You'll get as many opinions as fisherman on this. I like a 6'6" Shakespear micrographite rod paired with a Mitchell Avocet 2 reel. It's the smoothest reel and the most sensitive rod I've found in this price range. The rod sells for about $20 and the reel for about $25. I use it for sunfish and crappie. Again, that's just what I prefer. You'll get a ton of answers and probably all of them are right.
